In the modern day, the head of this unique martial arts lineage is Soke Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi.

In 1967, after inheriting the title of Soke (Grandmaster) from his teacher Toshitsugu Takamatsu, Dr. Hatsum founded the Bujinkan Dojo ("Divine Warrior House School") to transmit the teachings of the nine ancient ninpo and samurai martial traditions he inherited. These traditions, developed during Japan's Warring States Period are demonstrated to be authentic by the Bugei Ryuha Daijiten historical records.

Although essentially combative in nature, the modern art of Budo Taijutsu, is ideal for individuals who wish to develop mind, body, and spirit through the martial arts while bringing together both the qualities of warriorship (justice, courage, dignity) and "jihi no kokoro" (the benevolent or compassionate heart).  The wisdom of this statement can only be understood through dilgent study of this martial art; once understood, however, you will see the world through happier eyes.

Headquartered in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, Bujinkan martial arts training was first introduced to North America in 1980, then spread to the Vancouver area in 1991.
