Active in the martial arts for over 27 years, he has studied under such diverse teachers as Stephen Hayes and Guro Dan Inosanto of the United States, Doron Navon of Israel, Wilderness Survival and Tracking Instructor Tom Brown, the late KuKenpo Soke Shoen Fukuda, and many of the senior Bujinkan Instructors of Japan.
Mr. Legare was the Director of Physical Education for the University of Alaska from 1988-1990. He has been a personal student of Soke Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi since 1987, and has hosted several international Bujinkan events. In December 1993, Dr. Hatsumi Sensei presented Mr. Legare with the first of three Bujinkan Golden Dragon medals, the Bujinkan's highest award, in recognition of his many contributions to better the art of Budo Taijutsu. At the end of 1995, Mr. Legare was awarded the budo name Taka-Seigi, meaning "Hawk of Justice" by Soke Hatsumi. Mr. Legare, MSgt, USMC Retired, is a decorated combat veteran and is currently working for the US Department of Defense. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from New York University and is pursuing a Masters Degree in International Affairs.
In addition to Budo Taijutsu, Mr. Legare is fully licensed to teach Shinkenjutsu
or "modern combat applications" by Dr. Hatsumi Sensei, and Warriorship by Warriorship
Founder Jeffrey Prather (Nadza). Mr. Legare's Warriorship name is
Deleecho
and he teaches in conjunction with Penny Telfer (Itzaa'niyaa).
